Information Overload

Those that know me and my posts, I am always looking to improve myself.  Much of my reading contains self-help type books.  This past year I noticed I am struggling to complete reading the books I have chosen, and I am starting to think I need a break.  Years ago books were my primary source of new knowledge, but in today’s world we can find information in so many places. I discovered that many of the current books I have read also produce regular podcasts.  At first I loved this, it was like being back in school.  I could read a book and then listen to a lecture.  Now, I think it just added to my information overload.  Many of these authors produce supplemental information, quizzes, weekly, and yearly challenges, which is great and I love it all but I need to remind myself, I cannot do it all.  Or at least not all at once.  On one hand having information at our finger tips saves time, anyone remember having to go to the library for practically all of our information?  But, the timesavers of today can also rob us of our time when we fall into the rabbit hole.  I often go to look up one thing and an hour later I am into a completely different topic.  Currently, I am trying to finish the High 5 Habit by Mel Robbins, I should have finished reading this book by now, it was due back to the library at the end of August!  I am also not one that can not finish a book when I start one, I have only done that once.  And, it is not as if I am not interested in the topic, I am just struggling to make the time.  I decided that I am going to take a break from the self help books once I finish the current one.  Maybe a couple of good mystery/adventure reads will help break my slow reading pattern.  What do you do to reduce information overload?  I would love to hear about it in the comments.
