The Little Things
Sometimes the smallest things can make a positive difference. I know when you think of this statement it is usually used in the context of helping another but what about those little things for yourself? This year I purchased two treats for myself. The first is a key fob cover for my car key. Who knew there was such a thing. The one I bought is white and sparkly. It is amazing how this item that was less than $15 makes me feel so put together. The silicon cover took my boring black and silver key fob and made it fantastic! My second purchase was a bit pricey coming in…

Crater of Diamonds State Park
Spring break 2025 hubby and I took a road trip to the Crater of Diamonds State Park. The area was a volcano that when it erupted formed the diamonds. For years the area was mined but as the cost of mining increased commercial mining was not as lucrative and the area eventually became a state park. This has been a bucket list item since I learned of the park. Before we left, we researched the area and tips and tricks to be successful in our hunt. Before we even left for our trip we rented equipment from a local outfitter. Once we arrived in town we confirmed our equipment for…

Galveston Beaches
You never realize how good you have it until you see something from a different perspective. As I explored the beaches in Galveston Texas this year it really reminded me of how spoiled we are by our beaches in Cape May county. First our beaches reign supreme in cleanliness. At first I thought their beaches may be carry-in carry-out, they are not and they do have trash and recycling cans on the beaches but it seems they are not used as well as ours in New Jersey. Next, let’s talk about life guards. They only have life guard stands towards the center of the island and they are spaced I…

Becoming Inspired
One of my favorite genres to read are self help books. I am the type of person who always wants to improve myself and the things around me. So far this year I have read two books that have really helped my mindset. The 5AM Club by Robin Sharma and You are a Badass by Jen Sincero. As the year started I set a challenge for myself to get up a bit early so I could stretch each morning. In the 5AM Club, Robin Sharma speaks about setting an hour to prepare for your day using the 20/20/20 rule. 20 minutes of exercise, 20 minutes for reflection/meditation, and 20 minutes…

Project Completion-Carpeting
I know I mentioned in a previous post that I started repainting the house. This was in preparation to replace the carpeting. This project I started at least 4 years ago. This past November the project was completed. I finished painting the last room needed and the carpet was ordered. For the most part, all of the painting was complete except my bedroom and closets. The thought of emptying the closets and the room seemed so daunting and the longer I waited the worse it became. The main reason was that I would need to ask for help. Those that know me know this is an area where I struggle. …

The Unclutter Project
Our house fire, while traumatic, was an opportunity for growth. Before the fire we had so much junk, kids toys, cookware we never used, and every scrap of paper I ever received was held onto just incase are just a few examples of what cluttered the house. While we were in the rental house with our rental furnishing it was refreshing not to have so much stuff. My goal moving home was to keep up with this new minimalist attitude. Over time things creep back into your life and you don’t even realize. A craft project here and there and you have extra of this or that you may need…

The Unclutter Project-The Storage Container Cabinet
I set a goal for January to go through all of my kitchen cabinets and drawers. Removing everything from each so that I can clean the space and then go through each item and determine what should stay and what needs to go. I am happy to report that I finished this goal today. Most of the cabinets and drawers were not that difficult to quickly tackle, and I purposely started with the easy ones so I felt like I had accomplished something. The worst two were saved for last, the proverbial junk drawer and the cabinet with all the plastic food storage containers. The junk drawer was not as…

Clothing Reset
Most January’s I like to start fresh. As the previous year comes to an end I purge my closet of items I did not wear or that do not fit well. Once the new year begins I turn all of my hangers facing out. As the days go by and I wear an item, when it is returned to the closet I put the hanger back the normal way. At the end of the year I can see what clothes I wore and assess the ones I did not. Some of the clothes I did not wear may be special items like my ski pants, we did not ski last…

Running Review 2024
I tried to start the year off on the right foot by signing up for the First Day 5K and Polar Plunge in Ocean City. Since I had not been training, I did not expect much for the race except to finish. I was pleased with my sub 35 minute time. A trip to Galveston in February jump started my running. Morning runs along the beach in seventy degree weather was just the thing I needed. But then March running was not a thing. April was good with 15 miles total, May I was struggling and June saw 12 miles. I signed up for the full in Rehoboth in December…

2024- A Year in Review
As I usually do as the year comes to an end, I started looking through my journals for my goals from the year. I wanted to see what I accomplished and see what areas needed work. To my surprise I could not find a single goal I wrote down for last year. It was then that my year came into focus, no wonder it felt off. Sure I had signed up for the tri groups 12 training sessions to help improve my strength and I was getting the pool every other week but I never wrote down my targets. How can I hit something if I don’t see it? Work-wise…
