Mind

Charlie Daniels

At the end of last school year my middle daughter needed to interview someone for her music class.  Being stuck at home with little options there I was.  We talked about music I like and the few concerts I have attended and then the question that really started my thinking was who is one artist you want to see in concert that you haven’t.  Charlie Daniels came to mind immediately.  I wanted to see him in concert since I was about nine years old. Logistics, timing and money prevented me from attending concerts when I was younger.  Over the years I attended a few concerts that were held at small venues, I saw Arlo Guthrie at a local high school, Joan Jet and the Romantics played at small bars in the area.  I saw Peter Frampton at a theater a few towns away. My husband enjoys music and attending concerts, one of our first dates was to the Philly Chili Cook-off concert. I don’t remember any chili but I do remember Montgomery Gentry and Martina McBride.  While that was a big venue, what I consider my first real concert was seeing the King of Country, George Strait.  Have I mentioned I don’t always do well in crowds?  We were still hanging out waiting to go to our seats and I fainted, hubby wanted me to go to the hospital but I made a deal with him to stay in my seat and tell him if I wasn’t feeling well. It was an amazing concert.  I also saw Dwight Yokum and Willie Nelson, again both at small venues.  And, the I love the 90’s Concert with one of my dance Moms.   Most recently I saw The Who, this concert was the most surprising.  I am familiar with their music but would have never rushed out to buy tickets except we took a relative as a gift. I did not expect much as often I hear musicians as they get older and it is different then it once was, not The Who.  The concert was so good, they had a large orchestra and for a bunch of old guys they ran around and played as if it was twenty years ago.  So, amid covid and 2020 being a milestone birthday year for me I decided this was the year to see Charlie.  I found a date for him in early October and Alabama was scheduled as the opening band.  As I waited to see when concerts could resume I heard the terrible news that Charlie Daniels died on July 6th.  I wanted to see him play the Devil Went Down to Georgia live along with another favorite, Drinking my Baby Goodbye.  The lesson learned is not to put things off for another day.   If something is important to you or there is something you have always wanted to do, start making a plan to do it today.  What is something you have wanted to do or try that you have put off?  Let me know what it is in the comments, I would love to hear about it.
