Trying New Things-Golf Lessons, Part II

The weather on the day of class number three was a bit iffy.  Three of us showed up for the class and after a brief lecture we looked outside and the rain and wind were not going to allow us to get any playing time.  Tom used the extra time to cover even more points of how to hit the ball, how it spins once it is hit, and ways we can work on our swing.  The next class would be a repeat of this class and time to practice.  Tom did not want us to miss any of the clinic so he offered to do the last class on another day for us. At the next class our whole group was there and we headed to the driving range. Starting with our wedges we were instructed to hit a few to warm up.  According to Tom you should always warm up with the smaller clubs and work your way up.  I started to get the hang of the wedges and once I saw better consistency I moved on to the irons.  I was not hitting well and then I remembered ball placement changes depending on the club.  I made an adjustment but was still struggling. Tom was checking on each of us and when it was my turn he made a few suggestions and bam! I was hitting the ball!  After hitting a large bucket of balls I was getting a bit tired.  Class ended for the night and our final class would be Sunday night.

Our final class started with a quick lecture and then out to the range again.  Just like the previous class we were to start with the wedges and work up.  I am getting better with the wedges, consistently hitting the ball a decent distance.  Next was the irons, I was not looking forward to them but made a couple attempts.  I was not hitting the ball well.  I waited for my turn to talk to Tom and he had me make a few adjustments and just like the previous class I am hitting the ball!  Once I started getting better with the irons I switched to a wood.  For those of you that do not golf, these are bigger rounded club heads but not as big as a driver.  Again I try a couple of swings and just cannot connect to the ball, another pep talk and adjustment from

Tom and there I am hitting the ball.  Time is running out for the class so I grab the driver to take a few swings.  These go better than when I switched from irons to woods, I end class on a good note with good hits on the last 3 balls.

I thoroughly enjoyed this experience and cannot wait to get out and actually play golf.  I am thankful to have met Tom Palmgren, he is an amazing coach with an inspiring coaching history.  If you are looking to learn to play or want to improve your skills I highly recommend taking a clinic with Tom.  Cape May Par 3 is a hidden gem in our county.  The staff was friendly and welcoming.  Here is there web link: https://www.capemaypar3.com/  Have you tried learning something new lately?  Are you thinking about trying something new?  I would love to hear about your adventures in the comments!
