Timer Game
When my children were little, to get them to clean up I used the timer game. Since cleaning can feel overwhelming to small children, I would challenge them to see how much they could clean up before the timer went off. The smaller they were the longer the time, but never more than 30 minutes. The other day I was cooking soup and had 5 minutes on the timer so I challenged myself to see if I could clean the freezer before the timer ended. Fortunately for me I had 2 five minute intervals and within that ten minutes the freezer was almost cleaned. I needed just a few minutes past the timer to finish. I don’t know what reminded me of this little game but it was helpful and I felt super productive. I made soup and cleaned the freezer in a short time span. I plan to keep looking for times when I can use this game to motivate myself. What tricks do you use to get yourself motivated? Tell us about it in the comments.
